Charles Gray

At last, no more Grell! This is officially my LAST cosplay from the Black Butler world. When Charles Gray got introduced I loved the design so much, I got super inspired. This was my first cosplay where I made nearly everything. Yes. EVERYTHING. It was a very big project for someone as inexperienced as I was but I had a lot of fun learning new things, trying new patterns, working with different materials. YES. I would say this is what got me hooked on making cosplay.

I first started with the coat. The facing was fabric left over from a commission and the lining was actually a sheet!! I spent a lot of time testing the pattern and consulting with my mom how to do this and that. I put a lot of effort into the coat, it actually let me discover a love of making coats! The only thing I wish I did better was the cuffs, they were kinda wonky and horribly sewn. It fit so well though, but I'd go back and fix the collar to have it stand up. It was one of the better sewn projects I made.

The shirt and vest were made from basic cotton and some poorly choiced lace. I had to alter the pattern a bit because the shirt and vest were oddly shapped. I didn't line these, which I should have because their form and shape was wonky. They're two separate pieces that I put on via buttons. All buttons in this cosplay are function fyi! I originally painted the Flur fe lis because I didn't know what that was at the time or where to find something like that. I eventually found some buttons at Jo-Annes that I painted and sewn on even though you cant see them well.

The pants were HORRIBLE, I didn't use a pattern but scaled up a BJD pattern I had and it didn't work at all. They were short on my waist so everything would show if I bent down. I didn't made them long enough so I had to actually pin them to my boot covers to keep them up. If I were to reware this cosplay, I'd just buy white pants and sew the black buttons on because I don't like making pants lol.

The boot covers were fun to make. I bought some basic black heels and went from there. It's actually two pieces, the white part and the black and white stripped fabric that attached with velcro. There's no boning in it so when the pants were pinned to them, they stayed up. Without them. they fell like socks. Now these style of shoes are very common during Halloween so people don't know my woes haha. These were reused in my Choir Grell cosplay.

The wig is from Ebay. I bought some wefts to make the mullet but they didn't work very well so I just...never bothered to put them in. All the details on this cosplay (the two bows) were made from remnant fabric but I did buy a nice cameo for it. The gloves I already owned from my Grell cosplays.

I never made his sword which is fine because I had no idea how to make props then anyway.
